I’ve been part of McDonald Associates for over 20 years, having joined the firm at the age of 18 while studying at university. What began as a part-time role has grown into a career that I genuinely enjoy, helping individuals, families and business owners make confident financial decisions and achieve their long-term goals.
Having spent my entire career at McDonald Associates, I’ve had the opportunity to work in virtually every area of the business. Starting in junior roles, from filing and opening post, I’ve progressed through the company to become a Director. This journey has given me a deep understanding of the business, and today I combine my role as a Chartered Financial Planner with responsibility for the firm’s commercial management, day-to-day operations and supporting the development of our team.
As a Chartered Financial Planner, I specialise in investment and retirement planning, with particular expertise in pensions, including SIPPs and SSASs. I work closely with clients at every stage of their financial journey, from building and protecting wealth to creating sustainable retirement income strategies. I also have extensive experience advising individuals and business owners on using pension arrangements to acquire and hold commercial property.
Outside of work, life revolves around my family. With two young children, much of my spare time is spent coaching or supporting from the sidelines at football, cricket and cheerleading. Living on the doorstep of the Peak District, I enjoy making the most of the outdoors whenever I can.
Football has always been a big part of my life. At weekends you’ll usually find me coaching my son’s team or, when time allows, supporting Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. Following Wednesday has certainly taught me patience, resilience and the importance of taking the long-term view – qualities that aren’t a bad fit for financial planning either.
